Anti-discrimination law refers to the law on people’s right to be treated equally. Some countries mandate that in employment, in consumer transactions and in political participation people may be dealt with on an equal basis regardless of sex, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexuality and sometimes religion and political views.
Under Federal law, employers generally cannot discriminate against employees on the basis of:
- Race
- Gender
- Pregnancy
- Religion
- National origin
- Disability (physical or mental, including HIV status)
- Age (for workers over 40)
- Military service or affiliation
- Anticipated deployment with the Reserves or National Guard[citation needed]
- Bankruptcy or bad debts
- Genetic information
- Citizenship status (for citizens, permanent residents, temporary residents, refugees, and asylees)
